About DSASA | Who we are | Global Industry

The global industry recorded sales of US$182.8-billion in 2014, up by 6.4% from 2013. Nearly 100 million people were direct sellers in 2014 (99.7-million), an increase of 3.4% over 2013. Two-third's of the world's markets experienced growth in the number of people participating. 

The Direct Selling Industry is in 170 countries globally. The top 5 global markets are: USA, China, Japan, Korea and Brazil.

The global industry is supported by the World Federation of Direct Selling Associations (WFDSA), of which DSA South Africa is a member. 60 national and Regional DSA's are WFDSA members.

The WFDSA mission is to build understanding and support for direct selling worldwide and achieves this through:

  • Developing, maintaining and promoting the highest global standards for responsible and ethical conduct
  • Advocating the industry''s positions and interest with governments, media and key influencers
  • Serving as a trusted global resource for information on direct selling
  • Facilitating interaction among direct selling executives on issues of importance to the industry 

Locally, sales for DSA member companies increased by 5,2% over 2013, totalling R8,4-billion. Including export sales to the rest of Africa, sales totalled R9,7-billion. Total Direct Sellers in 2014 was up by 13.6% over 2013, with 1,2-million people involved in direct selling.
