Direct Selling Association of South Africa
The Direct Selling Association (DSA) is a national business association founded in 1972 representing direct selling companies that distribute goods and services through Direct Sellers (independent contractors also referred to as distributors, consultants, managers, sales agents, independent business operators and others) directly to consumers in a face to face manner away from a fixed retail location.
2011 industry statistics show the DSA as representing an industry that achieved 9.9% growth over 2010 in South Africa. An industry turnover of R7.8-billion was recorded in 2011, building on the 16.9% growth achieved 2010 over 2009. This is during a time when many other industries were in decline. It has created an enabling environment for its 36 direct selling member companies to provide income generating opportunities for over 1.3-million people - an increase of 6.3% over 2010 - of which 384,000 are thriving entrepreneurs building their own successful businesses (an increase of 13.6% over 2010).
The DSA promotes industry self-regulation and engages with government and consumer organisations to ensure fair and equitable regulation of the marketplace with regards to direct selling.
